Each run through the game helps unlock power-ups, skills, and other upgrades. Players can switch between two selected characters on the fly, with the game also including co-op in the full release. There are six playable characters, each with their own set of attacks, weapons, and skills. Penny Blood: Hellbound, meanwhile, tells a side story that puts players in control of the Hellhounders, Matthew’s anarchist rivals, as they aim to escape the otherwordly prison of Mictlan. Penny Blood features a 1920s gothic horror setting and follows an investigator named Matthew Farrell across America, Europe, and Asia in a world twisted by cosmic horrors. In a similar setup to Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, the game is being primarily developed by Natsume Atari, with Studio Wildrose providing creative vision. The game is an action roguelite companion title that acts as a prequel to Yukikaze’s upcoming Shadow Hearts spiritual successor Penny Blood. Yukikaze, Studio Wildrose, and Natsume Atari have announced Penny Blood: Hellbound.
